Master of Ministry in Worship and Music Leadership

This 60-credit-hour programme offered jointly with Bandung Theological Seminary (BTS) is designed to designed to equip experienced worship and music ministry pastors and leaders, choral conductors and music team leaders with musical-pastoral-theological concepts and skills in order that they may be effective catalysts for the greater growth of God’s church in Indonesia and Asia.

Areas of Specialisation

Students can choose to major in choral conducting or ministry leadership.

Educational Methods

The M.Min. in Worship and Music Leadership curriculum is offered in a hybrid format:

  1. On-campus modules at BTS

    Learn from SBC faculty three times a year for five-day worship and music modules, and from BTS faculty for four Bible and theology modules.

  2. Group interaction and online discussions
    Engage with faculty and students online in two to four months of group interaction and structured distance-learning after the residential period while working on your assignments and projects.
  3. Intercultural learning in the SBC

    Interact with and learn from international participants of the annual Selah retreats in Singapore.

  4. Pastoral care group meetings

    Participate in daily community worship and pastoral care group meetings during the residential periods.

  5. Interaction with ministry leaders
    Interview key ministry leaders to learn about more about their ministries, leadership principles and practices, spiritual life, change management, and other related matters.
  6. Field education

    Apply, interact with, and integrate what is learned in classes into actual ministry situations while completing the post-residential assignments that requires the students to work with a choir, worship team, worship ministry members, or congregation.

The M.Min. in Worship and Music Leadership programme requires four years of full-time study to complete from the time of admission.

Worship and music courses taught by the SBC faculty will be in English. Bible and theology courses taught by the BTS faculty will be in Bahasa Indonesia.

Prerequisites for Programme Admission

Academic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized (with applied music major) university or seminary
  • 12 credit hours of the required SCM core theology courses from an ATA-accredited seminary. Those without these courses will be required an additional year of study.
  • DVD recording of a recital within the last three years of application or of ABRSM Grade 8 pieces (or equivalent) (visit www.abrsm.org for more information, availability in your country, and equivalence)

English Language Minimum Requirements

  • TOEFL: 550 (PBT)/213 (CBT)/80 (IBT)
  • IELTS:  6.0

General Requirements

  • At least 24 years of age
  • Baptized Christian of at least four years
  • Music and/or worship ministry experience of at least two years

Graduation Requirements

  • Completion of all credit hours of studies as required by the school
  • Meet the minimum GPA as required
  • Approved Christian character
  • The applicant will require to take placement exams in music theory, music history and basic musicianship.
