Course Description
At different points in life most people experience some kind of crisis. Accidents, plane crashes, earthquakes, terrorist attacks can happen to anyone at anytime. During such times people experience a wide range of feelings, and each person's response to a crisis is different.
This training will prepare and equip participants to help groups of affected people to cope with their immediate emotional reactions when a crisis strikes their community , and to plan for longer-term emotional support.
Learning Objectives:
✦ To gain an understanding of the nature of crisis and trauma from the perspective of the type of incident as well as the immediate ann long-term impact on the individual and the community.
✦ To explore issues of loss in death and dying as it relates to trauma.
✦To understand issues of age, culture and spirituality in responding to trauma.
✦To learn crisis intervention, death notification, post-trauma processes and skills.
✦To practice individual and group crisis intervention and community response coordination skills.
✦To learn of the impact of responding to crisis on the caregiver.
Certificate
Upon successful completion (attendance of 90%), a certificate of completion will be issued by National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA), USA.
Absence from attendance due to reasons like illness, work, family obligations, and other valid reasons will still be considered as being absent and will count towards the total time absent.
About NOVA
Founded in 1975, it has trained and deployed thousands of responders to disasters of various kinds, primarily all over the USA, and also in other parts of the world. NOVA is the oldest national group of its kind in the worldwide victims’ movement.
About the Trainer

Suzanne Anderson is a Registered Social Worker currently living and working in Singapore as a trainer and consultant in the areas of community crisis response, crime victim assistance, and social work. She is certified by the National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA) in the United States as a trainer and crisis responder focusing on the emotional aftermath of trauma and is a counselor with the Singapore American Community Action Council (SACAC) Counselling Centre.
She completed her Master of Social Work at the National University of Singapore and is currently pursuing her doctoral studies with the University of Southern Queensland. |
