THE GLOBAL CONSULTATION ON MUSIC AND MISSIONS (Asia)
Music, Multimedia, and Creative Arts in Missions
Date: July 4-7, 2010
Venue: Singapore Bible College and Bartley Christian Church
Website: http://www.gcommhome.org/2010/
In the past 30 years, God has used and is using music, creative arts, and multimedia to facilitate the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the discipleship of the church in the world. The strategic and contextualized employment of these tools has impacted many cultures and sub-cultures with the gospel, many of which would otherwise have remained unreached.
As these tools impact Asia, God has opened the way for us to dialogue about the use of music, creative arts and multimedia in missions through the Global Consultation on Music and Missions (GCoMM Asia). Through this event, participants will be able to:
- Dialogue about how to encourage the use of culturally-relevant music—music that touches the heart of people groups
- Form friendships and partnerships with likeminded people
- Share resources, models, and strategies that work
- Identify challenges and opportunities in the use of music and related arts in missions
- Have opportunities for further communication and networking
The plenary speakers are Michael Card, Stan Moore, Ron Man, Tony Yeo, and Landa Cope. They will provide the biblical foundations of the use of creative arts in the different aspects of missions: worship, discipleship, and evangelism.
There will also be 36 breakout sessions to choose from six learning tracks to meet the needs of various target participants:
- The missionary track – to equip and encourage cross-cultural missionaries to use culturally-relevant music and art forms in their ministry
- The creative communications track – for those who are interested in using movies, concerts, digital resources, and the web in ministry
- The creative arts ministries track – for those interested in creative arts, theatre, and dance ministries
- The musicians track – for Christian musicians who wants to know how to go about writing, composing, publishing and recording culturally-relevant music
- The ethnodoxology track – for Christian ethnomusicologists
- The Chinese ministries track – for those who are interested in using music, creative arts, and multimedia to reach out to the Chinese (all sessions in this track will be in Mandarin)
There will also be great times of worship (through global songs and worship forms), testimonies, cultural presentations, exhibits, resources, and networking time.
