Immigration Requirements

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority of Singapore (ICA) require that all international students possess a valid student pass throughout the duration of their study. The following information lists guidelines for entering Singapore and steps to obtaining a student pass. For further details please refer to http://app.ica.gov.sg/serv_visitor/student_pass/student_pass_app .

Entry by Student Visa (China, India, Myanmar & Bangladesh)

Students from China, India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh need a visa to enter Singapore. In some areas this can be processed by the student, otherwise the College will apply for the visa and mail it to the student. The validity of a visa varies from two to four weeks, based on the discretion of the ICA. The cost for an entry visa is S$20 and will be borne by the student.

Entry by Social Visit Visa (All other countries)

On approval of the student pass application SBC will inform students they are permitted to come to Singapore. A social visit visa will be granted on arrival. This visa will be exchanged for the approved student pass shortly after arrival once the student has completed the other ICA requirements.

Student Pass Application

The Registrar’s office will facilitate the student pass application procedure. Students are responsible for submitting the following items together with their SBC application: two fully filled out copies of Form 16 and Form V36, copy of Birth Certificate, copies of highest educational certificates, copies of transcripts, copy of passport personal information pages, 2 passport size photos, and documentary proof of financial ability in the form of bank statements.

Please do not come to Singapore unless the student pass has already been approved. Upon approval of the student pass, SBC will inform the student to prepare to come to Singapore. After arrival the student will need to fulfil the ICA requirements before collecting the student pass. This usually includes a HIV-screening at one of the clinical laboratories designated by the Ministry of Health. Charges for the medical check-up range between S$40 and S$70, depending on the choice of clinical laboratory visited. The student also needs to pay a banker’s guarantee service charge of $102 to $122, depending on country of origin and the duration of the course of study. All costs are to be borne by the student.

NOTE:

  • Official translation of certificates and transcripts is required if they are not in the English language.
  • Students are required to collect their student pass in person and produce all ORIGINAL copies of supporting documents for verification at that time.
  • The fee for a student pass and each subsequent renewal is S$40.

Accompanying Family Members

Each accompanying family member requires a long-term social visit pass to remain in Singapore for the duration of the period of study. To apply for this pass, the student pass, a copy of the marriage certificate and copies of the birth certificate of any children are required. The student is responsible for subsequent pass renewal. Failure to renew before the expiry date will result in a hefty fine.

Financial Standing

Students are responsible for personal and family financial expenses incurred during the course of study. They must have adequate financial resources or support from church, family, friends, savings or other means otherwise a student pass will not be granted. Immigration law forbids holders of a student pass and long-term social visit pass to engage in any form of paid employment. A breach of the law may result in forfeiture of security deposit, cancellation of pass and repatriation.

Children's Education

International students who wish to enroll their children in local primary or secondary schools can apply to the Foreign Students Unit of the Ministry of Education (MOE), website www.moe.edu.sg. Admission is subject to assessment tests conducted by the school of choice. The entire admissions process takes at least two months and students are responsible for taking care of all the necessary details.
