A New SBC

Because you have contributed greatly to the growth of SBC, ...

As we celebrate our 55th anniversary and Founder’s Day on August 23, it is my privilege to share with you some latest developments in Singapore Bible College. Because you have contributed greatly to the growth of SBC, I would like to take this opportunity to let you know what is upcoming for SBC.

A New Look

There are many activities on our campus lately: the upgrading of restrooms; the re-painting of Block 7, and the rebuilding of Block 5. While rebuilding and renovation is a common sight for most schools, we are determined to build up our hardware with a soft touch. We want to blend our structures with beauty and arts. Though appearance is not everything, it is the first impression! Our theological education probably would not suffer if our facades maintain as they are, but we do want to catch up with our surrounding and standards of architecture in Singapore. Beauty is reflected in God’s creation and beauty tends to arouse more beauties. We feel that improvements of our surrounding are conducive for contemplation, reflective thinking, and creativity. We look forward to a new look in SBC!

A New Took

This year we have high intake of new students: 153 from 22 nations. We are seeing God’s hand at work in a might way! Since, 2000, we have seen increment of 45% of the student body. Currently we have 540 full-time and part-time students from 25 countries. It seems that God is expanding SBC’s ministry by bringing increasing number of students from different nations and ethnic groups to be trained in SBC. There is a great need for more workers to harvest the field and shepherd God’s people. We are preparing ourselves for greater impact and contribution to the training of Christian workers for administrative members will be needed to train the increasing student body. We invite you to be a part of our advancement!

A New Outlook

SBC is becoming a graduate school! This is the last year we accept Diploma and Bachelor students in our Schools of Theology. The School of Church Music will still admit students for the Diploma and Bachelor of Church Music programs. There is a provision for alumni to upgrade within the upcoming three years while we still run the BTh program and we will still cater to some outstanding High Schools and Polytechnic graduates by giving them an entrance exam to select the most suitable candidates. But we have seen “the handwriting on the wall” for a while. There are more private and public colleges and universities in this region. We have observed a declining trend in the BTh student population. There are also more and more BTh programs available in the region. The high cost of living in Singapore makes it more cost-effective for students to finish their BTh program in their own countries before coming to SBC.

SBC operates with limited means and resources. We feel the best way to maximize our resources is to train graduate level students. We are continuing to contribute to the region by training their trainers who will go back to train their own people. For SBC, we want to contribute more through publications and research, which have a wider impact for a greater audience worldwide.

Every great work begins with a dream. We invite you to dream with us, and make our dreams a reality. It can be done!

Come grow with us!
